Tomorrow, the President of the National Campaign Supervisory Commission Jean Nkuété will meet a region that is working hard for effective voting to take place amidst security concerns
In a midway evaluation meeting on Friday September 28, 2018, the Chair of the North West Campaign Coordination Commission Philemon Yang, used four yard sticks. The door-todoor, mouth-to-ear campaigns, polling activities and the relationship with administration and defence forces were the points used to evaluate the first week of campaigns from the 21st to the 28th of September, 2018.
The door to door campaign is effective in 24 out of the 34 municipalities, otherwise sections. In some sections, it is timid while in some areas like Batibo, Bali, Bafut, Belo and Fundong it is ineffective because of the restive situation. Mouth-to-ear campaign in these difficult areas is better, although poor network in these localities makes it difficult to reach the electorate.
The party in the region has been able to identify polling agents and their names submitted to the election management body Elections Cameroon but some local campaign commissions are yet to have complete lists.
According to a report, which L’Action received, urgent security reinforcement is needed in some areas while such border municipalities as Furu-Awa, Ako, Nwa and Misaje need a security watch. Although the security situation is under control in most parts of the region, the report stresses on “vigilance”. Here, militants and sympathizers of the CPDM are living under threats from armed secessionists hovering and ready to harm or kidnap them for ransom. By the day, the military is dismantling secessionists’ camps and giving hope to the population. The Wum road which was in the hands of the nihilists has been reopened. Campaign material and funds, according to the report have reached all the sections. Unfortunately, Jean Nkuété will also learn about the kidnap of some militants, such as the Treasurer of Nkum (Tatum) section and a subsection president of Mezam IB (Mankon).
